Services provided include maintaining the central repository for local criminal records, along with the entry, update, and research of warrant or wanted persons, stolen, recovered, lost, and found property or vehicles, missing or abducted people. Team members collaborate with officers and law enforcement partners to prepare records for DA review or court adjudication.<\/p><p>The Criminal Records Unit offers a variety of services at our Ventura and Thousand Oaks locations. These sites are open Monday \u2013 Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Records Technicians can assist with responding to records requests, subpoenas, petitions for case sealings, vehicle release, issuing County business and event permits and licenses, livescan and registration services.<\/p><h3><strong>Records Requests <\/strong><\/h3><p>Please be advised that reports requested without a subpoena, court order or specific statutory authority will be treated as a request made under the California Public Records Act. (See Cal. Gov. Code 7923.600).\u00a0 The Sheriff&#8217;s Office may take up to 10 calendar days to respond to your request (Cal. Gov. We do not accept personal checks.<\/p><h3><strong>Guidelines for releasing reports are as follows:<\/strong><\/h3><h3><strong>Crime and Incident Reports<\/strong><\/h3><h4><strong>Released to:<\/strong><\/h4><ul><li>The victim of the incident;<\/li><li>The legal guardian of a minor victim;<\/li><li>An insurance carrier with a legitimate interest; or<\/li><li>An individual who has sustained bodily injury, property damage, or property loss as a result of the incident.<\/li><\/ul><h4><strong>Not released:<\/strong><\/h4><ul><li>If the disclosure would endanger the safety of a witness or other involved party<\/li><li>If disclosure could endanger the successful completion of an investigation and\/or related investigation<\/li><li>Name and address of a victim(s) of certain specified crimes will not be disclosed<\/li><li>If the Department is prohibited by law from releasing the report (e.g. child\/elder\u00a0abuse reports)<\/li><\/ul><h3>\u00a0<\/h3><h3><strong>Traffic Collision Reports<\/strong><\/h3><h4><strong>Released to:<\/strong><\/h4><ul><li>Drivers involved in the collision<\/li><li>Registered owners of vehicles involved<\/li><li>Parents of a minor driver involved<\/li><li>Passengers\u00a0listed in the report<\/li><li>Insurance companies<\/li><li>Those incurring property damage as a result of the accident<\/li><li>Those who may incur civil liability as a result of the accident<\/li><li>Any attorney who declares\u00a0that he or she represents any of the above persons<\/li><\/ul><h3>\u00a0<\/h3><h3><strong>Juvenile Reports<\/strong><\/h3><h4><strong>Released to:<\/strong><\/h4><ul><li>Parents of a juvenile may receive a copy of certain types of reports if their child is the only juvenile identified in the report.<\/li><\/ul><p>All other requesters must petition the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Court directly for the release of juvenile records. The Sheriff&#8217;s Office may take up to 10 calendar days to respond to your request (Cal. Gov. Code 7922.535) and, if necessary, may take a reasonable period of time thereafter to produce the non-exempt records responsive to your request.<\/p><h3><strong>How to file a Public Records Act Request <\/strong><\/h3><p>The Ventura County Sheriff\u2019s Office utilizes a Public Records Portal that allows anyone to submit a request.
